Records and correspondence of the Secretary of State, 1909-1936.

Series 2 of record group RG 97-256 consists of the records and correspondence of the Secretary of State of Michigan for the years 1909-1936. Consists of fragmentary documentation from the Secretary of State. Includes letters received (ca. 1909-1911); a small receipt book of businesses that filed annual reports in Michigan (ca. 1913); and an annual report (1913) from the Woodville Telephone Company, located in Woody, Michigan. This report gives general directory and stock information. Also includes receipts and correspondence documenting the Michigan primary election of September 15, 1936. Louis B. Ward, a Democrat from Pontiac, challenged the primary victory of his opponent, Prentiss M. Brown of St. Ignace. The fragments of this record series indicate that a re-count was taken in late September and October 1936. In the end, Prentiss M. Brown ran against and defeated Wilbur M. Brucker, the Republican candidate, in the general election of November 3, 1936.
